The Piccole Orme villa

The Piccole Orme villa is arranged over two levels, with an equipped area of approximately 250 m², designed to allow each child to find their own vital dimension in harmony with others. The outdoor area, of about 500 m², is equipped as a playground and garden.

During the renovation of the building, every effort was made to adhere to the principles of bio-architecture or bio-building (the new science of construction and design that respects nature and human beings).

Accordingly, traditional yet healthy materials were used, such as bricks, raw earth, and non-radiating stone. The paints and coatings used are free of chemical solvents and therefore non-toxic, in shades of green, as this color expresses joy while also conveying openness and creating a bright, pleasant, welcoming, and harmonious environmental effect. The guiding principle was that the school environment should be neutral in tone in order to leave space for the true chromatic protagonists: the children and their work. The chosen colors—secondary and tertiary hues with low saturation—provide a chromatic range that is not limited to red, yellow, and blue, but rather more complex, just as a child’s identity is more complex.

The electrical wiring is shielded and equipped with voltage disconnectors to prevent the creation of electromagnetic fields. Hygroscopic materials were used to ensure proper and natural regulation of humidity within the rooms.

The exterior walls are capable of filtering and neutralizing toxic atmospheric agents, as the construction materials used are absorbent. The rooms feature harmonious dimensions, proportions, shapes, and colors, and comply with the most recent EEC safety guidelines.

The Piccole Orme school building was completely renovated in 2000, complies with safety regulations, and is surrounded by a planted garden equipped with outdoor play areas.

  • two bathrooms for children (separate for boys and girls)

  • an accessible bathroom for people with disabilities

  • a bathroom for staff

  • a kitchen

  • a pantry

  • a bathroom for kitchen staff

  • two storage rooms

  • a covered outdoor area
